Altra removed stitching in the upper to help prevent hot spots which also increased upper durability. At 33mm of stack this Altra’s highest cushioned trail runner, combined with Compressed EVA midsole you can confidently tackle any easy run, long run and ultra distance. The Men’s Altra Olympus 5 one of our best selling thru-hikers shoes. Hikers love the wide forefoot that allows ample room for 20 mile days while carrying a 20 pound pack. Those prone to foot swelling during long days at altitude are big fans of the extra space. The 33mm of stack height provides an all day cushion on those long days when the adventure doesn’t end in Colorado. 

Technologies 

• Vibram® Megagrip Outsole

Vibram® created this rubber compound to perform in extreme conditions and that’s why Altrac placed it on their Men’s Altra Olympus 5. This compound formed into a 4mm lug pattern means that the nastiest wet and slick terrain can be handled with confidence. The tread is spaced in a manner that allows debris to escape as opposed to accumulating on the outsole.  

• Trailclaw Lugs™

 The 4mm lugs of the Men's Altra Olympus 5 are angled to increase traction when running uphill and downhill. Each lug cuts into the terrain when running downhill while providing a larger surface area on the backside to keep feet stabilized when running up steep ascents.

• Innerflex™

 Gridlike grooves placed into midsole providing increased responsiveness over any situation the trail can throw at you.  

•  Compressed Molded EVA Midsole

The CMEVA midsole used in many popular trail running models provides excellent cushioning on impact while remaining highly resilient through long hours on the trails, road and at work.
